Guru Purnima 🌕 Reflections

July 9, 2025
Kabir Das, a mystic poet and saint,
in 15th century India, wrote in one of his couplets:

{Hindi}
गुरू गोविन्द दोऊ खड़े, काके लागूं पांय।
बलिहारी गुरू अपने गोविन्द दियो बताय।।

{English}
“Guru Govind dou khade, kaake laagoon paye
Balihari guru aapne, Govind diyo milaye.”

{Translation}
“Both God and my Guru stand before me. Whom should I bow to first?
I first bow to my guru, because he is the one,
who showed me the path to God.”

On this sacred day of Guru Purnima, as we bow our heads in reverence and offer our heartfelt prayers to the guiding lights in our lives, I’m reminded of the timeless wisdom of the great 15th-century mystic poet, Kabir Das, whose words echo the profound significance of the Guru!

Yet, when it comes to the very act of praying, my heart deeply resonates with a beautiful truth my revered Guru, Om Swami, once shared with his signature clarity and compassion:

“When we pray out of desire (kaamna), we may receive what we want.
But when we pray with pure devotion (bhavna), the Divine gives us what He wants to give…
and that is far greater than what we could have asked for.”

This wisdom pierces through the noise of restless yearning and reminds us:

Some seek blessings, ‘From Shiva’,
while others seek, ‘Shiva Himself’.

So today, I gently invite you to reflect, when you sit in silence or prayer, are you asking something from Him? Or simply seeking Him?

This subtle shift, will shape not just your prayers, but your entire path.

In Peace, Prosperity & Gratitude, 🙇🏻‍♂️

Har Har Mahadev. 🔱
